It seems I’ve grown a social cyber-conscience. For the past few years I’ve participated in the New York AIDS Walk. It’s a fantastic event that funds a cause holding great personal significance, plus it’s one of the only things that will get me off my couch-cemented ass to exercise for an entire Sunday morning. I’m behind the ball this year on collecting sponsors, so I figured why not use a post. I don’t usually deem blogs the proper forum for personal fundraising, but GMHC (which runs the Walk) is an exceptional organization that relies on this event for funding, so it’s worth it to break my no-soliciting rule. If you’re a regular reader of the blog, I ask that you consider making a donation. Anything from a few dollars upwards will make a difference and be greatly appreciated. You can choose to donate anonymously (this is the internet after all), in honor of another person, or under your own name.

All money raised by the Walk goes to the following: 1) direct services for HIV-positive patients including hot meals, nutrition counseling, legal services, child care and case management; 2) creation and publication of informational materials including treatment updates that are distributed nationally, as well as an anonymous free hotline; and 3) funding for centers providing free HIV testing, counseling, prevention information and early intervention.
