“What the hell! Melissa, we’re late for the movie! Why aren’t you ready to go?”
“Boyfriend, calm down, I’ll be ready in thirty seconds. Give me a break here, I was on the phone.”
“You’re never on the phone. Why right at this moment?”
“My friend called to tell me she just got engaged. That’s one of those official Girl Moments where it’s not appropriate to say ‘Oh that’s great honey, so happy for you, but I’m off to a movie, later.’ I wanted to hear the details.”
“Fine. Can we go now please?”
“Alright! Good grief!” We flee our warm apartment building and march out into the frozen tundra. “So you’re not even going to ask me which friend it was?”
“What? Oh. Ok, which friend was it?”
“M, and her boyfriend B.”
“Oh cool. Tell them Congratulations.”
“Um, yeah, that’s what I was just doing on the phone five minutes ago.”
He pauses and frowns thoughtfully. “How come all of your friends are getting engaged, and mine never are?”
“You don’t really want me to answer that question.”
