Apologies for the lack of daily posting this week, I’ve been chained to a table plugging away on Boyfriend’s computer (mine is currently in the shop receiving laptop CPR). I emerged from my writing hideaway for a few minutes yesterday, but had to race back to avoid being trampled by the stampede of frantic men sprinting for the nearest Duane Reade or corner grocery to buy red-packaged chocolates and flowers.
Anyway last week I did an interview for a magazine article, and was then promptly sliced from the story like moldy cheese. This was disappointing, since I spent a lot of time pondering the writer’s questions and coming up with wiseass answers. So I figured I would go ahead and post my responses as personal consolation. Copout-free posts will resume presently, once I rip myself away from editing.
1. When did you start opinionista and why?
I started the blog in March of 2005 as a last resort to curb insomnia. I began seeing a therapist who suggested I start writing every night before I go to bed. The resulting late-night verbal detours evolved into a blog.
2. What’s the hardest thing about working on a blog?
Paying the price of honesty. Revealing what you really think about the issues, people and situations in your life on the internet isn’t without its consequences.
3. What are your future plans?
Well, today I need to pick up some kitty litter, write another 2000 words and edit 2 chapters, and talk my mom out of disowning me over the blog. That’s about as far as I’ve gotten.
4. How many people do you have working on
opinionista?
Every person in my life works on it. They’re the creators of all the drama, I just write it down.
5. When did you realize that blogs were a new
career option?
Wait, doesn’t “career” usually mean you make money? I haven’t quite figured that one out yet.
6. What doors has opinionista opened for you?
It certainly smashed open the door leading out of my former office.
7. What were you doing before opinionista?
I was an attorney at a law firm, billing hours and guzzling Kool Aid.
8. What do you do other than opinionista? Any
other blogs?
I wander the city in a daze, sampling random baked goods, euphoric over the fact that I’m no longer chained to a desk.
9. Where are you located?
Left side of the couch, living room, downtown Manhattan
