I received around a hundred emails yesterday, most in response to the day’s post. To those who wrote, know that I read every one of them, and thank you for writing to share your insightful thoughts and incredible stories (all of which I promise not to use in the book). For those who didn’t write, you’ll just have to put up with these “Thanks for writing me emails” posts until the levels trickle off. One interesting thing, though: as of yesterday morning, the hate mail stopped. It was like someone stuck a massive wad of cotton balls in the bottle of malice and contempt. There are probably plenty of reasons for this, but I personally never underestimate the power of a little Tillich. Or maybe they’re just afraid I’ll start publishing names and email addresses.
