“So, you came out of the blogger closet so to speak. Congrats. Any regrets? – J”

Ultimately, what’s done is done, no point in regretting it. The lawyer stampede isn’t spewing anything in my direction that wasn’t easy to anticipate. Though the fallout has had a few unexpected twists – somehow I doubt that, had I been male, so much of the vitriol would be directed at my physical appearance, sexual history and personal life. Just a wild hunch on that one.

As for the charges of “you’re a disgrace to law firms,” “you’re a fake lawyer,” etc., I was hardly a great summer associate/junior associate/law student. I don’t need hundreds of portly middle-aged men poring through chat rooms to clue me in on that one. Though I don’t necessarily consider those statements insulting.

The one regret is that yesterday, in a rush to shoo Cat (which is actually her real name, I have achieved new levels of incompetence in naming pets) off the kitchen counter, I knocked my laptop off the coffee table and broke the power cord outlet. So now I have to jiggle the machine every 5 seconds to enable the AC adapter. Which makes working on the manuscript even more of an adventure.

Above all the goal now, as always, is to produce a piece of non-internet writing that I’m truly proud of. The rest is smoke and mirrors. I resigned in order to start over – there’s no real point in focusing on the past.
